           Thenalso,andbeforethebroachingoftherumandwater,cameMrPancks’snote-book.Theensuingbusinessproceedingswerebriefbutcurious,andratherinthenatureofaconspiracy.MrPanckslookedoverhisnote-book,whichwasnowgettingfull,studiously;andpickedoutlittleextracts,whichhewroteonseparateslipsofpaperonthetable;MrRugg,inthemeanwhile,lookingathimwithcloseattention,andYoungJohnlosinghisuncollectedeyeinmistsofmeditation.WhenMrPancks,whosupportedthecharacterofchiefconspirator,hadcompletedhisextracts,helookedthemover,correctedthem,putuphisnote-book,andheldthemlikeahandatcards.

           ‘Now,there’sachurchyardinBedfordshire,’saidPancks.‘Whotakesit?’
