           Shetriedtothinkfurtherthanthis,butsomehow,justnow,therewasnofurtherthought.Suddenlyquiteoutsideofherownvolition,withnothoughtthatshewasgoingtodosuchathing,herbosombegantoheave,herthroatcontractedinfourorfiveshort,sharp,achingspasms,hereyesburned,andsheshookinavigorous,anguished,desperate,almostonemighthavesaiddry-eyed,cry,sohotandfewwerethetears.Shecouldnotstopforthemoment,juststoodthereandshook,andthenafterawhileadullachesucceeded,andshewasquiteasshehadbeenbefore.

           "Whycry?"shesuddenlyaskedherself,fiercelyforher."Whybreakdowninthisstormy,uselessway?Wouldithelp?"

           But,inspiteofherspeculative,philosophicobservationstoherself,shestillfelttheecho,thedistantrumble,asitwere,ofthestorminherownsoul."Whycry?Whynotcry?"Shemighthavesaidbutwouldn’t,andinspiteofherselfandallherlogic,sheknewthatthistempestwhichhadsorecentlyragedoverherwasnowmerelycirclingaroundhersoul’shorizonandwouldreturntobreakagain.
