Itisaquestionastowhatwouldhavehappenedifantagonisticforcescouldhavebeenintroducedjustatthistime.Emotionsandliaisonsofthischaractercan,ofcourse,occasionallybebrokenupanddestroyed.Thecharactersoftheindividualscanbemodifiedorchangedtoacertainextent,buttheforcemustbequitesufficient.Fearisagreatdeterrent—fearofmateriallosswherethereisnospiritualdread—butwealthandpositionsooftentendtodestroythisdread.Itissoeasytoschemewithmeans.
