"Fine!Fine!"hewouldreply,cheerfully."Neverbetter,"andhewouldexplaininageneralwayhowhisaffairswerebeinghandled.Heconveyedmuchofhisownoptimismtoallthosewhoknewhimandwereinterestedinhiswelfare,butofcoursethereweremanywhowerenot.
