Thetwogirls,onwhom,kneelingdownonthewetground,andlookingthroughthelow,latticedwindowofMoorHousekitchen,Ihadgazedwithsobitteramixtureofinterestanddespair,weremynearkinswomen;andtheyoungandstatelygentlemanwhohadfoundmealmostdyingathisthresholdwasmybloodrelation. Gloriousdiscoverytoalonelywretch!Thiswaswealthindeed!—wealthtotheheart!—amineofpure,genialaffections. Thiswasablessing,bright,vivid,andexhilarating;—notliketheponderousgiftofgold:richandwelcomeenoughinitsway,butsoberingfromitsweight. Inowclappedmyhandsinsuddenjoy—mypulsebounded,myveinsthrilled.
