           ‘Really,really?’returnedthePatriarch.

           ‘WillyouthereforebesogoodastogivemetheaddressofMissWade?’

           ‘Dear,dear,dear!’saidthePatriarch,‘howveryunfortunate!Ifyouhadonlysentintomewhentheywerehere!Iobservedtheyoungwoman,MrClennam.Afinefull-colouredyoungwoman,MrClennam,withverydarkhairandverydarkeyes.IfImistakenot,ifImistakenot?’

           Arthurassented,andsaidoncemorewithnewexpression,‘Ifyouwouldbesogoodastogivemetheaddress.’

           ‘Dear,dear,dear!’exclaimedthePatriarchinsweetregret.‘Tut,tut,tut!whatapity,whatapity!Ihavenoaddress,sir.MissWademostlylivesabroad,MrClennam.Shehasdonesoforsomeyears,andsheis(ifImaysaysoofafellow-creatureandalady)fitfulanduncertaintoafault,MrClennam.Imaynotseeheragainforalong,longtime.Imayneverseeheragain.
