           ‘I’magoingSoandSo.Itain’tyou,LittleMother,that’sgotanythingtodowithit—it’syou,youknow,’saidMaggy,addressingArthur.‘You’dbettercome,SoandSo,andletmetakeandgive‘emtoyou.’

           ‘Wewillnotbesoparticularasthat,Maggy.Givethemmehere,’saidClennaminalowvoice.

           ‘Well,then,comeacrosstheroad,’answeredMaggyinaveryloudwhisper.‘LittleMotherwasn’ttoknownothingofit,andshewouldneverhaveknownnothingofitifyouhadonlygoneSoandSo,insteadofbotheringandloiteringabout.Itain’tmyfault.ImustdowhatIamtold.Theyoughttobeashamedofthemselvesfortellingme.’
