           ButhesufferedMrCasbytogoout,withoutofferinganyfurtherremark,andthentookapeepathimoverthelittlegreenwindow-blinds.‘Ithoughtso,’heobserved.‘Iknewwhereyouwereboundto.Good!’HethensteamedbacktohisDock,putitcarefullyinorder,tookdownhishat,lookedroundtheDock,said‘Good-bye!’andpuffedawayonhisownaccount.HesteeredstraightforMrsPlornish’sendofBleedingHeartYard,andarrivedthere,atthetopofthesteps,hotterthanever.

           ThePatriarch,approachingwithhisusualbenignity,wassurprisedtoseeMrPancks,butsupposedhimtohavebeenstimulatedtoanimmediatesqueezeinsteadofpostponingthatoperationuntilMonday.ThepopulationoftheYardwereastonishedatthemeeting,forthetwopowershadneverbeenseentheretogether,withinthememoryoftheoldestBleedingHeart.
