           Therewerenodirectionsforhimtogive.Thepeopleofthehouseknewwhattodo;theproperauthoritiesweresoonbrought;andtheytookanequablebusiness-likepossessionofthedeceased,andofwhathadbeenhisproperty,withnogreaterdisturbanceofmannerorcountenancethanusuallyattendsthewinding-upofaclock.Physicianwasgladtowalkoutintothenightair—wasevenglad,inspiteofhisgreatexperience,tositdownuponadoor-stepforalittlewhile:feelingsickandfaint.

           Barwasanearneighbourofhis,and,whenhecametothehouse,hesawalightintheroomwhereheknewhisfriendoftensatlategettinguphiswork.AsthelightwasnevertherewhenBarwasnot,itgavehimassurancethatBarwasnotyetinbed.Infact,thisbusybeehadaverdicttogetto-morrow,againstevidence,andwasimprovingtheshininghoursinsettingsnaresforthegentlemenofthejury.
