Whatmustbehissenseofitnow,therefore?Shewasofcourseonlytoogoodforhim;butasnobodymindshavingwhatistoogoodforthem,hewasverysteadilyearnestinthepursuitoftheblessing,anditwasnotpossiblethatencouragementfromhershouldbelongwanting.Timid,anxious,doubtingasshewas,itwasstillimpossiblethatsuchtendernessashersshouldnot,attimes,holdoutthestrongesthopeofsuccess,thoughitremainedforalaterperiodtotellhimthewholedelightfulandastonishingtruth.Hishappinessinknowinghimselftohavebeensolongthebelovedofsuchaheart,musthavebeengreatenoughtowarrantanystrengthoflanguageinwhichhecouldclotheittoherortohimself;itmusthavebeenadelightfulhappiness.Buttherewashappinesselsewherewhichnodescriptioncanreach.Letnoonepresumetogivethefeelingsofayoungwomanonreceivingtheassuranceofthataffectionofwhichshehasscarcelyallowedherselftoentertainahope.
