           ItwasbutthedaybeforethatCrawfordhadmadehimselfthoroughlymasterofthesubject,orhadinfactbecomeatallawareofherhavingsuchabrother,orhisbeinginsuchaship,buttheinterestthenexcitedhadbeenveryproperlylively,determininghimonhisreturntotowntoapplyforinformationastotheprobableperiodoftheAntwerp’sreturnfromtheMediterranean,etc.;andthegoodluckwhichattendedhisearlyexaminationofshipnewsthenextmorningseemedtherewardofhisingenuityinfindingoutsuchamethodofpleasingher,aswellasofhisdutifulattentiontotheAdmiral,inhavingformanyyearstakeninthepaperesteemedtohavetheearliestnavalintelligence.Heproved,however,tobetoolate.
