           Shecouldnotequalthemintheirwarmth.Herspiritssankundertheglowoftheirs,andshefeltherselfbecomingtoonearlynothingtobothtohaveanycomfortinhavingbeensoughtbyeither.Theymustnowrehearsetogether.Edmundproposed,urged,entreatedit,tillthelady,notveryunwillingatfirst,couldrefusenolonger,andFannywaswantedonlytopromptandobservethem.Shewasinvested,indeed,withtheofficeofjudgeandcritic,andearnestlydesiredtoexerciseitandtellthemalltheirfaults;butfromdoingsoeveryfeelingwithinhershrank—shecouldnot,wouldnot,darednotattemptit:hadshebeenotherwisequalifiedforcriticism,herconsciencemusthaverestrainedherfromventuringatdisapprobation.Shebelievedherselftofeeltoomuchofitintheaggregateforhonestyorsafetyinparticulars.Topromptthemmustbeenoughforher;anditwassometimesmorethanenough;forshecouldnotalwayspayattentiontothebook.Inwatchingthemsheforgotherself;and,agitatedbytheincreasingspiritofEdmund’smanner,hadonceclosedthepageandturnedawayexactlyashewantedhelp.Itwasimputedtoveryreasonableweariness,andshewasthankedandpitied;butshedeservedtheirpitymorethanshehopedtheywouldeversurmise.
