           Itwasnaturalthat,inthemidstofheraffliction,sheshouldoftenreverttothatsweetyoungladyofwhomshehadonlycaughtahastyglance,butwhosesympathy,expressedinoneslightbriefaction,dweltinhermemorylikethekindnessesofyears.Shewouldoftenthink,ifshehadsuchafriendasthattowhomtotellhergriefs,howmuchlighterherheartwouldbethatifshewerebutfreetohearthatvoice,shewouldbehappier.Thenshewouldwishthatsheweresomethingbetter,thatshewerenotquitesopoorandhumble,thatshedaredaddressherwithoutfearingarepulse;andthenfeelthattherewasanimmeasurabledistancebetweenthem,andhavenohopethattheyoungladythoughtofheranymore.
