           “‘TheHoleintheGround,’”saidDrouet,mentioningthepopularfarceofthetime.

           “Well,you’dbetterbegoing.It’shalfaftereightalready,”andhedrewouthiswatch.

           Thecrowdwasalreadythinningoutconsiderably—someboundforthetheatres,sometotheirclubs,andsometothatmostfascinatingofallthepleasures—forthetypeofmanthererepresented,atleast—theladies.

           “Yes,Iwill,”saidDrouet.

           “Comearoundaftertheshow.IhavesomethingIwanttoshowyou,”saidHurstwood.

           “Sure,”saidDrouet,elated.

           “Oh,nevermindher,”Hurstwoodremarked.

           “Say,shewasalittledandy,Itellyou,”wentonDrouetconfidentially,andtryingtoimpresshisfriend.

           “Twelveo’clock,”saidHurstwood.
