           Hismannerashesaidthiswasthemostquietimaginable.Hisfaceandbodyretaineduttercomposure.Onlyhiseyesmoved,andtheyflashedasubtle,dissolvingfire.Inthemthewholeintensityoftheman’snaturewasdistillingitself.

           Carriemadenoanswer.

           Heturnedonhersuchastormoffeelingthatshewasoverwhelmed.Forthemomentalldoubtswereclearedaway.

           Carrieshookherheadinspiteofherdistress.

           Themanagerstarted,hitashewasbyaproblemwhichwasmoredifficultthanhers.Hegavenosignofthethoughtsthatflashedlikemessagestohismind.
