           ‘Ohquite,’repliedtheoldman.‘Whynot?’

           ‘He’sexceedinglydeaf,’mutteredthesextontohimself.‘Ithinkhe’sgettingfoolish.’

           Thechildratherwonderedwhathadledhimtothisbelief,as,tosaythetruth,theoldmanseemedquiteassharpashe,andwasinfinitelymorerobust.Asthesextonsaidnothingmorejustthen,however,sheforgotitforthetime,andspokeagain.
