           Tobesure,itwasabeautifullittlecottagewithathatchedroofandlittlespiresatthegable-ends,andpiecesofstainedglassinsomeofthewindows,almostaslargeaspocket-books.Ononesideofthehousewasalittlestable,justthesizeforthepony,withalittleroomoverit,justthesizeforKit.Whitecurtainswerefluttering,andbirdsincagesthatlookedasbrightasiftheyweremadeofgold,weresingingatthewindows;plantswerearrangedoneithersideofthepath,andclusteredaboutthedoor;andthegardenwasbrightwithflowersinfullbloom,whichshedasweetodourallround,andhadacharmingandelegantappearance.Everythingwithinthehouseandwithout,seemedtobetheperfectionofneatnessandorder.Inthegardentherewasnotaweedtobeseen,andtojudgefromsomedappergardening-tools,abasket,andapairofgloveswhichwerelyinginoneofthewalks,oldMrGarlandhadbeenatworkinitthatverymorning.

           Kitlookedabouthim,andadmired,andlookedagain,andthisagreatmanytimesbeforehecouldmakeuphismindtoturnhisheadanotherwayandringthebell.Therewasabundanceoftimetolookabouthimagainthough,whenhehadrungit,fornobodycame,soafterringingittwiceorthricehesatdownuponhisbox,andwaited.
