Thepublic-housewaskeptbyafatoldlandlordandlandladywhomadenoobjectiontoreceivingtheirnewguests,butpraisedNelly’sbeautyandwereatonceprepossessedinherbehalf.Therewasnoothercompanyinthekitchenbutthetwoshowmen,andthechildfeltverythankfulthattheyhadfallenuponsuchgoodquarters.ThelandladywasverymuchastonishedtolearnthattheyhadcomeallthewayfromLondon,andappearedtohavenolittlecuriositytouchingtheirfartherdestination.Thechildparriedherinquiriesaswellasshecould,andwithnogreattrouble,forfindingthattheyappearedtogiveherpain,theoldladydesisted.
