PeterkinandIweresomuchinthehabitoftrustingeverythingtoJackthatwehadfallenintothewayofnotconsideringthings,especiallysuchthingsaswereunderJack’scare.Wehad,therefore,neverdoubtedforamomentthatallwasgoingwell,sothatitwaswithnolittleanxietythatweheardhimmaketheaboveremark.However,wehadnotimeforquestionorsurmise,foratthemomenthespokeaheavysquallwasbearingdownuponus,andaswewerethenflyingwithourleegunwaledippingoccasionallyunderthewaves,itwasevidentthatweshouldhavetoloweroursailaltogether.Inafewsecondsthesquallstrucktheboat;butPeterkinandIhadthesaildowninamoment,sothatitdidnotupsetus.Butwhenitwaspastweweremorethanhalf-fullofwater.ThisIsoonbailedout,whilePeterkinagainhoistedacornerofthesail.ButtheevilwhichJackhadfearedcameuponus.WefounditquiteimpossibletomakePenguinIsland.Thegalecarriedusquicklypastittowardstheopensea,andtheterribletruthflasheduponusthatweshouldbesweptoutandlefttoperishmiserablyinasmallboatinthemidstofthewideocean.
