           Thisuniqueindividualwasnolessthananex-soldierturnedreligionist,who,havingsufferedthewhipsandprivationsofourpeculiarsocialsystem,hadconcludedthathisdutytotheGodwhichheconceivedlayinaidinghisfellow-man.Theformofaidwhichhechosetoadministerwasentirelyoriginalwithhimself.Itconsistedofsecuringabedforallsuchhomelesswayfarersasshouldapplytohimatthisparticularspot,thoughhehadscarcelythewherewithaltoprovideacomfortablehabitationforhimself.
