           InthissituationherthoughtswentouttohersisterinVanBurenStreet,whomshehadnotseensincethenightofherflight,andtoherhomeatColumbiaCity,whichseemednowapartofsomethingthatcouldnotbeagain.Shelookedfornorefugeinthatdirection.NothingbutsorrowwasbroughtherbythoughtsofHurstwood,whichwouldreturn.Thathecouldhavechosentodupeherinsoreadyamannerseemedacruelthing.

           Tuesdaycame,andwithitappropriateindecisionandspeculation.Shewasinnomood,afterherfailureofthedaybefore,tohastenforthuponherwork-seekingerrand,andyetsherebukedherselfforwhatsheconsideredherweaknessthedaybefore.AccordinglyshestartedouttorevisittheChicagoOperaHouse,butpossessedscarcelyenoughcouragetoapproach.
