           Sheacknowledgedthatshehadnot.

           “Well,ifIwereyou,”hesaid,lookingatherrathergenially,“Iwouldtrythedepartmentstores.Theyoftenneedyoungwomenasclerks.”

           “Thankyou,”shesaid,herwholenaturerelievedbythissparkoffriendlyinterest.
