           Hippolyte,whohadfallenasleepduringLebedeff’sdiscourse,nowsuddenlywokeup,justasthoughsomeonehadjoggedhimintheside.Heshuddered,raisedhimselfonhisarm,gazedaround,andgrewverypale.Alookalmostofterrorcrossedhisfaceasherecollected.

           “What!aretheyalloff?Isitallover?Isthesunup?”Hetrembled,andcaughtattheprince’shand.“Whattimeisit?Tellme,quick,forgoodness’sake!HowlonghaveIslept?”headded,almostindespair,justasthoughhehadoversleptsomethinguponwhichhiswholefatedepended.

           “Youhavesleptsevenorperhapseightminutes,”saidEvgeniePavlovitch.
