           ThebewilderedGaniaintroducedherfirsttoVaria,andbothwomen,beforeshakinghands,exchangedlooksofstrangeimport.Nastasia,however,smiledamiably;butVariadidnottrytolookamiable,andkepthergloomyexpression.Shedidnotevenvouchsafetheusualcourteoussmileofetiquette.
