           InregardtothisparticularcasehehadalreadyheardfromMissSaundersallsheknewofthedrowning,and,likethecoroner,hadbeenimmediatelyimpressedwiththefactthattheprobablepublicityattendantonsuchacaseasthisappearedtobemightbejustwhatheneededtoreviveawaveringpoliticalprestigeandmightperhapssolvetheproblemofhisfuture.Atanyratehewasmostintenselyinterested.Sothatnow,uponsightofHeit,heshowedplainlythekeeninteresthefeltinthecase.

           "Well,ColonelHeit?"

           "Well,thetruthis,Orville,Ithinkthere’shardlyadoubtthatthisisacaseofmurder."Heit’sheavyeyesglowedsomberly."Ofcourse,it’sbesttobeonthesafeside,andI’monlytellingyouthisinconfidence,becauseevenyetI’mnotabsolutelypositivethatthatyoungman’sbodymaynotbeinthelake.Butitlooksmightysuspicioustome,Orville.
