           ButCentralAvenuewasquitealivewithtraffic,pedestriansandautomobiles.Oppositediagonallyfromthehotel,whichcontainedaseriesofwideplate-glasswindows,behindwhichweremanychairsinterspersedwithpalmsandpillars,wasthedry-goodsemporiumofStarkandCompany,aconsiderableaffair,fourstoriesinheight,andofwhitebrick,andatleastahundredfeetlong,thevariouswindowsofwhichseemedbrightandinteresting,crowdedwithassmartmodelsasmightbeseenanywhere.Alsotherewereotherlargeconcerns,asecondhotel,variousautomobileshowrooms,amovingpicturetheater.
