           AnditwasnotlongafterClydehadbeguntoworkherethathewasinformedbythesepeculiarboyswithwhomhewasassociated,oneormoreofwhomwasconstantlyseatedwithhimuponthe"hop-bench,"astheycalledit,astotheevidenceandpresenceevenhereitwasnotlongbeforevariousexamplesofthephenomenawerepointedouttohimofacertaintypeofsocialpervert,morallydisarrangedandsociallytaboo,whosoughttoarrestandinterestboysoftheirtype,inordertocomeintosomeformofillicitrelationshipwiththem,whichatfirstClydecouldnotgrasp.Themerethoughtofitmadehimill.Andyetsomeoftheseboys,ashewasnowinformedacertainyouthinparticular,whowasnotonthesamewatchwithhimatthistimeweresupposedtobeofthemindthat"fellforit,"asoneoftheotheryouthsphrasedit.

           Andthetalkandthepalaverthatwentoninthelobbyandthegrill,tosaynothingoftherestaurantsandrooms,weresufficienttoconvinceanyinexperiencedandnone-too-discerningmindthatthechiefbusinessoflifeforanyonewithalittlemoneyorsocialpositionwastoattendatheater,aball-gameinseason,ortodance,motor,entertainfriendsatdinner,ortotraveltoNewYork,Europe,Chicago,California.
