           Andso,althoughinseveralcasesinthepasttenyearswherefamilyandotherneighborhoodandreligiousconsiderationshadmadeitseemquiteadvisable,hehadassistedinextricatingfromtheconsequencesoftheirfollyseveralyounggirlsofgoodfamilywhohadfallenfromgraceandcouldnototherwiseberescued,stillhewasopposedtoaiding,eitherbyhisowncountenanceorskill,anylapsesortanglesnotheavilysponsoredbyothers.Itwastoodangerous.Ordinarilyitwashiscustomtoadviseimmediateandunconditionalmarriage.Or,wherethatwasnotpossible,theperpetratoroftheinfamyhavingdecamped,itwashisgeneralandself-consciouslysanctionedpracticetohavenothingatalltodowiththematter.Itwastoodangerousandethicallyandsociallywrongandcriminalintothebargain.
