           Indeedherbodywasnowtornforthemomentbythemostdesperateandconvulsivesobs,somuchsothatClyde,perplexedandastonishedanddeeplymovedbythissuddendisplayofapent-upandpowerfulemotion,assuddenlywashimselfmoveddeeply.Forobviouslythiswasnotrickorhistrionicbitintendedtoinfluencehim,butratherasuddenandoverwhelmingvisionofherself,ashehimselfcouldsense,asaratherlornandisolatedgirlwithoutfriendsorprospectsasopposedtothoseothersinwhomhewasnowsointerestedandwhohadsomuchmoreeverythinginfact.Forbehindherinhervisionlayallthelornanddetachedyearsthathadmarredheryouth,nowsovividbecauseofherrecentvisit.Shewasreallyintenselymovedoverwhelminglyandhelplessly.
