           "Oh,now,Mr.Griffiths.Youknowyoudon’tmeanthat,"pleadedRoberta,fearfullestthissuddencontactshouldtaketoointimateandsentimentalaturntooquickly.Shescarcelylikedthatbecauseshewasafraidofhimandherself,andnowshelookedathim,tryingtoappearalittlecoldoratleastdisinterested,butitwasaveryweakeffort.

           "That’sthetruth,though,justthesame,"insistedClyde.

           "Oh,haveyou?"heexclaimed,andtherewasmoretalkastowhyhelikedtocomeoutandhowhehadlearnedtoswimhere."AndtothinkIturnedinhereandthereyouwereonthebank,lookingatthosewaterlilies.Wasn’tthatqueer?Ialmostfelloutoftheboat.Idon’tthinkIeversawyoulookasprettyasyoudidjustnowstandingthere."

           "Oh,now,Mr.Griffiths,"againpleadedRobertacautiously."Youmustn’tbeginthatway.I’llbeafraidyou’readreadfulflatterer.
