Inthefaceofsogreatacalamity,itwasveryhardforher,asClydecouldsee,togetthisstraightenedout,instantlyatleast.Although,asClydehadcometoknow,itcouldbedoneeventually,ofcourse.Forinsomeblind,dualisticwaybothsheandAsainsisted,asdoallreligionists,indisassociatingGodfromharmanderrorandmisery,whilegrantingHimneverthelesssupremecontrol.Theywouldseekforsomethingelse—somemalign,treacherous,deceivingpowerwhich,inthefaceofGod’somniscienceandomnipotence,stillbeguilesandbetrays—andfinditeventuallyintheerrorandperversenessofthehumanheart,whichGodhasmade,yetwhichHedoesnotcontrol,becauseHedoesnotwanttocontrolit.
Atthemoment,however,onlyhurtandragewerewithher,andyetherlipsdidnottwitchasdidAsa’s,nordidhereyesshowthatprofounddistresswhichfilledhis.
