           Withtherapidinstinctofselfishness,Caderoussereadilyperceivedthesolidityofthismodeofreasoning;hegazed,doubtfully,wistfully,onDanglars,andthencautionsupplantedgenerosity.

           "Supposewewaitawhile,andseewhatcomesofit,"saidhe,castingabewilderedlookonhiscompanion.

           "Tobesure!"answeredDanglars."Letuswait,byallmeans.Ifhebeinnocent,ofcoursehewillbesetatliberty;ifguilty,why,itisnouseinvolvingourselvesinaconspiracy."

           "Withallmyheart!"repliedDanglars,pleasedtofindtheothersotractable."Letustakeourselvesoutoftheway,andleavethingsforthepresenttotaketheircourse.
