           "Well,"saidFranztohim;"thereisthebeginningofanadventure."

           "LaughifyoupleaseIreallythinkso.SoIwillnotabandonthisbouquet."

           "Pardieu,"returnedFranz,laughing,"intokenofyouringratitude."Thejest,however,soonappearedtobecomeearnest;forwhenAlbertandFranzagainencounteredthecarriagewiththecontadini,theonewhohadthrownthevioletstoAlbert,clappedherhandswhenshebeheldtheminhisbutton-hole."Bravo,bravo,"saidFranz;"thingsgowonderfully.ShallIleaveyou?Perhapsyouwouldpreferbeingalone?"

           "No,"repliedhe;"Iwillnotbecaughtlikeafoolatafirstdisclosurebyarendezvousundertheclock,astheysayattheopera-balls.Ifthefairpeasantwishestocarrymattersanyfurther,weshallfindher,orrather,shewillfindustomorrow;thenshewillgivemesomesignorother,andIshallknowwhatIhavetodo.
