           AtanyothertimeValentinewouldhaveseizedthesilkenbell-pullandsummonedassistance,butnothingastonishedherinherpresentsituation.Herreasontoldherthatallthevisionsshebeheldwerebutthechildrenofherimagination,andtheconvictionwasstrengthenedbythefactthatinthemorningnotracesremainedofthenocturnalphantoms,whodisappearedwiththecomingofdaylight.
