           Oncepastthefrontier,Andreaproposedmakingmoneyofhisdiamonds;andbyunitingtheproceedstotenbank-noteshealwayscarriedaboutwithhimincaseofaccident,hewouldthenfindhimselfpossessorofabout50,000livres,whichhephilosophicallyconsideredasnoverydeplorableconditionafterall.Moreover,hereckonedmuchontheinterestoftheDanglarstohushuptherumoroftheirownmisadventures.Thesewerethereasonswhich,addedtothefatigue,causedAndreatosleepsosoundly.Inorderthathemightawakenearlyhedidnotclosetheshutters,butcontentedhimselfwithboltingthedoorandplacingonthetableanunclaspedandlong-pointedknife,whosetemperhewellknew,andwhichwasneverabsentfromhim.
