           Thearticlehavingbeenreadduringthepainfulhushthatfollowed,auniversalshudderpervadedtheassembly,andimmediatelytheclosestattentionwasgiventotheoratorasheresumedhisremarks.Hestatedhisscruplesandthedifficultiesofthecase;itwasthehonorofM.deMorcerf,andthatofthewholeHouse,heproposedtodefend,byprovokingadebateonpersonalquestions,whicharealwayssuchpainfulthemesofdiscussion.Heconcludedbycallingforaninvestigation,whichmightdisposeofthecalumniousreportbeforeithadtimetospread,andrestoreM.deMorcerftothepositionhehadlongheldinpublicopinion.
