           ThevaryinglightoffireandcandleinMrsClennam’sroommadethegreatestchangethateverbrokethedeadmonotonyofthespot.Inhertwolongnarrowwindows,thefireshonesullenlyallday,andsullenlyallnight.Onrareoccasionsitflasheduppassionately,asshedid;butforthemostpartitwassuppressed,likeher,andpreyeduponitselfevenlyandslowly.
