           Sosaying,hegotupanddressedhimself.Thenhewentoutintothegarden.Theremusthavebeenatremendouswindinthenight,foralthoughallwasquietnow,therelaythelittlesummer-housecrushedtotheground,andoveritthegreatelm-tree,whichthewindhadbrokenacross,beingmuchdecayedinthemiddle.Diamondalmostcriedtoseethewildernessofgreenleaves,whichusedtobesofarupintheblueair,tossingaboutinthebreeze,andlikingitbestwhenthewindblewitmost,nowlyingsoneartheground,andwithoutanyhopeofevergettingupintothedeepairagain.

           “Iwonderhowoldthetreeis!”thoughtDiamond.“Itmusttakealongtimetogetsoneartheskyasthatpoortreewas.”

           “Yes,indeed,”saidavoicebesidehim,forDiamondhadspokenthelastwordsaloud.
