“Ifsheweretosweepacrossing—soonatleast—aftertheillnessshehashad,shewouldbelaidupagaintheveryfirstwetday,”saidMr.Raymond.
“Andthere’shardlyanymoneytobegotexceptonthewetdays,”remarkedDiamondreflectively.“Istherenothingelseshecoulddo,sir?”
“Notwithoutbeingtaught,I’mafraid.”
“Well,couldn’tsomebodyteachhersomething?”
“Couldn’tyouteachher,Diamond?”
