           BythistimePeterkinhadthinneddownhisspear,andtiedanironpointverycleverlytotheendofit;Ihadformedasling,thelinesofwhichwerecomposedofthinstripsofthecocoa-nutcloth,plaited;andJackhadmadeastoutbow,nearlyfivefeetlong,withtwoarrows,featheredwithtwoorthreelargeplumeswhichsomebirdhaddropped.Theyhadnobarbs;butJacksaidthatifarrowswerewellfeatheredtheydidnotrequireironpoints,butwouldflyquitewellifmerelysharpenedatthepoint,whichIdidnotknowbefore.

           Thestringofthebowwasformedofourpieceofwhip-cord,partofwhich,ashedidnotliketocutit,wasrolledroundthebow.
