           FromthiswehurriedtotheWaterGarden,andtookalastdiveintoitsclearwatersandalastgambolamongstitscoralgroves.Ihurriedoutbeforemycompanions,anddressedinhaste,inordertohavealongexaminationofmytank,whichPeterkin,inthefulnessofhisheart,hadtendedwiththeutmostcare,asbeingavividremembrancerofmeratherthanoutoflovefornaturalhistory.Itwasinsuperbcondition:thewaterasclearandpellucidascrystal;theredandgreenseaweedofthemostbrillianthues;thered,purple,yellow,green,andstripedanemonesfullyexpanded,andstretchingouttheirarmsasiftowelcomeandembracetheirformermaster;thestarfish,zoophytes,sea-pens,andotherinnumerablemarineinsects,lookingfreshandbeautiful;andthecrabs,asPeterkinsaid,lookingaswide-awake,impertinent,rampant,andpugnaciousasever.Itwas,indeed,solovelyandsointerestingthatIwouldscarcelyallowmyselftobetornawayfromit.

           Lastofall,wereturnedtothebowerandcollectedthefewarticleswepossessedsuchastheaxe,thepencil-case,thebrokentelescope,thepenknife,thehookmadefromthebrassring,andthesail-needle,withwhichwehadlandedontheisland;alsothelongbootsandthepistol,besidesseveralcuriousarticlesofcostumewhichwehadmanufacturedfromtimetotime.

           Theseweconveyedonboardinourlittleboat,afterhavingcarvedournamesonachipofiron-wood,thus:
