           ImayhereremarkthatthestuffinghadbeendevisedbyPeterkinspeciallyfortheoccasion.Hekeptthemannerofitscompoundingaprofoundsecret,soIcannottellwhatitwas;butIcansay,withmuchconfidence,thatwefoundittobeatrociouslybad,andafterthefirsttasting,scrapeditcarefullyoutandthrewitoverboard.Wecalculatedthatthissupplywouldlastusforseveraldays;butweafterwardsfoundthatitwasmuchmorethanwerequired,especiallyinregardtothecocoa-nuts,ofwhichwefoundlargesupplieswhereverwewent.However,asPeterkinremarked,itwasbettertohavetoomuchthantoolittle,asweknewnottowhatstraitswemightbeputduringourvoyage.
