           Thisweaccomplishedwithoutdifficultyinafewminutes;andnosoonerdiditflareupthanwewerestruckdumbwiththewonderfulobjectsthatwererevealedtoourgaze.Theroofofthecavernjustaboveusseemedtobeabouttenfeethigh,butgrewhigherasitrecededintothedistanceuntilitwaslostindarkness.Itseemedtobemadeofcoral,andwassupportedbymassivecolumnsofthesamematerial.Immenseicicles(astheyappearedtous)hungfromitinvariousplaces.These,however,wereformed,notofice,butofaspeciesoflimestone,whichseemedtoflowinaliquidformtowardsthepointofeach,whereitbecamesolid.Agoodmanydropsfell,however,totherockbelow,andtheseformedlittlecones,whichrosetomeetthepointsabove.Someofthemhadalreadymet,andthuswesawhowthepillarswereformed,whichatfirstseemedtousasiftheyhadbeenplacedtherebysomehumanarchitecttosupporttheroof.Asweadvancedfartherinwesawthatthefloorwascomposedofthesamematerialasthepillars,anditpresentedthecuriousappearanceofripplessuchasareformedonwaterwhengentlyruffledbythewind.Therewereseveralopeningsoneitherhandinthewallsthatseemedtoleadintoothercaverns,butthesewedidnotexploreatthistime.Wealsoobservedthattheceilingwascuriouslymarkedinmanyplaces,asifitwerethefretworkofanoblecathedral;andthewalls,aswellastheroof,sparkledinthelightofourtorch,andthrewbackgleamsandflashesasiftheywerecoveredwithpreciousstones.
