           Sometimesthesecorrespondentsassumedfacetiousnames,astheBrick,Bellows,OldGooseberry,Wideawake,Snooks,Mops,Cutaway,theDogs-meatMan;butheconsideredthisinbadtaste,andwasalwaysalittlehurtbyit.

           Inthefulnessoftime,thiscorrespondenceshowingsignsofwearingout,andseemingtorequireaneffortonthepartofthecorrespondentstowhichinthehurriedcircumstancesofdeparturemanyofthemmightnotbeequal,heestablishedthecustomofattendingcollegiansofacertainstanding,tothegate,andtakingleaveofthemthere.Thecollegianundertreatment,aftershakinghands,wouldoccasionallystoptowrapupsomethinginabitofpaper,andwouldcomebackagaincalling‘Hi!’

           ‘Mygoodsir,’hewouldrejoin,‘heisinfinitelyobligedtoyou.’But,tothelast,theirresolutehandofoldwouldremaininthepocketintowhichhehadslippedthemoneyduringtwoorthreeturnsabouttheyard,lestthetransactionshouldbetooconspicuoustothegeneralbodyofcollegians.
