           Toenablethisgirltoearnherfewweeklyshillings,itwasnecessaryfortheChildoftheMarshalseatogothroughanelaborateformwiththeFather.

           ‘Acompanion?Hepassesmuchofhistimehere.Andyouattendtohimandlookafterhim,Amy,agreatdealmorethaneveryoursisterwill.Youallgooutsomuch;youallgooutsomuch.’

           ThiswastokeepuptheceremonyandpretenceofhishavingnoideathatAmyherselfwentoutbythedaytowork.
