Tuesdaymorningamanandagirl,whosaidtoThomasLucas,whoconductstheCasinoLunchandBoatHousethere,thattheywerefromPittsfield,rentedasmallrow-boataboutteno’clockinthemorningandwithabasket,presumablycontaininglunch,departedforthenorthernendofthelake.Atseveno’clocklastevening,whentheydidnotreturn,Mr.Lucas,incompanywithhissonJeffrey,madeatourofthelakeinhismotorboatanddiscoveredtherow-boatupsidedownintheshallowsnearthenorthshore,butnotraceoftheoccupants.
