Nothinginparticularevereventuatedtheninthecity,althoughprevioustothis,inMay,therehadbeenvariousaffairsinconnectionwiththeGriffithsandtheirfriendswhichClydehadeitherreadaboutorsawatadistance—agraduationreceptionanddanceattheSnedekerSchool,alawnfeteupontheGriffiths’grounds,withastripedmarqueetentononepartofthelawnandChineselanternshunginamongthetrees.Clydehadobservedthisquitebyaccidentoneeveningashewaswalkingaloneaboutthecity.Itraisedmanyacuriousandeagerthoughtinregardtothisfamily,itshighstationandhisrelationtoit.Buthavingplacedhimcomfortablyinasmallofficialpositionwhichwasnotarduous,theGriffithsnowproceededtodismisshimfromtheirminds.Hewasdoingwellenough,andtheywouldseesomethingmoreofhimlater,perhaps.
