           Thingsjustthingshadseemedveryimportanttohimandhehadsoresentedbeingtakenoutonthestreetashehadbeen,beforealltheotherboysandgirls,manyofwhomhadallthethingsthathesocraved,andwhenhewouldhavebeengladtohavebeenanywhereelseintheworldthanoutthereonthestreet!Thatmissionlifethattohismotherwassowonderful,yet,tohim,sodreary!Butwasitwrongforhimtofeelso?Haditbeen?WouldtheLordresentitnow?And,maybe,shewasrightastoherthoughtsabouthim.Unquestionablyhewouldhavebeenbetteroffifhehadfollowedheradvice.Buthowstrangeitwas,thattohisownmother,andevennowintheseclosinghours,whenaboveallthingshecravedsympathybutmorethansympathy,trueanddeepunderstandingevennowandasmuchasshelovedandsympathizedwith,andwasseekingtoaidhimwithallherstrengthinhersternandself-sacrificingwaystillhecouldnotturntohernowandtellher,hisownmother,justhowitallhappened.Itwasasthoughtherewasanunsurmountablewallorimpenetrablebarrierbetweenthem,builtbythelackofunderstandingforitwasjustthat.Shewouldneverunderstandhiscravingforeaseandluxury,forbeauty,forlovehisparticularkindoflovethatwentwithshow,pleasure,wealth,position,hiseagerandimmutableaspirationsanddesires.Shecouldnotunderstandthesethings.Shewouldlookonallofitassinevil,selfishness.
