           "IhaveconfessedeverythingtoGodandtoMr.McMillan,Mother.Isn’tthatenough?"

           "No,Clyde.Youhavetoldtheworldthatyouareinnocent.Butifyouarenotyoumustsayso."

           "ButifmyconsciencetellsmethatIamright,isnotthatenough?"

           "No,notifGod’swordsaysdifferently,Clyde,"repliedMrs.Griffithsnervouslyandwithgreatinwardspiritualtorture.Buthechosetosaynothingfurtheratthattime.HowcouldhediscusswithhismotherortheworldthestrangeshadingswhichinhisconfessionandsubsequenttalkswiththeReverendMcMillanhehadnotbeenabletosolve.Itwasnottobedone.
