           Tomexhibited. Theyweresatisfactory,andthepropertychangedhands. ThenTomtradedacoupleofwhitealleysforthreeredtickets,andsomesmalltrifleorotherforacoupleofblueones. Hewaylaidotherboysastheycame,andwentonbuyingticketsofvariouscolorstenorfifteenminuteslonger. Heenteredthechurch,now,withaswarmofcleanandnoisyboysandgirls,proceededtohisseatandstartedaquarrelwiththefirstboythatcamehandy. Theteacher,agrave,elderlyman,interfered; thenturnedhisbackamomentandTompulledaboy’shairinthenextbench,andwasabsorbedinhisbookwhentheboyturnedaround; stuckapininanotherboy,presently,inordertohearhimsay "Ouch!" andgotanewreprimandfromhisteacher. Tom’swholeclasswereofapatternrestless,noisy,andtroublesome. Whentheycametorecitetheirlessons,notoneofthemknewhisversesperfectly,buthadtobepromptedallalong. However,theyworriedthrough,andeachgothisrewardinsmallbluetickets,eachwithapassageofScriptureonit; eachblueticketwaspayfortwoversesoftherecitation. Tenblueticketsequalledaredone,andcouldbeexchangedforit; tenredticketsequalledayellowone; fortenyellowticketsthesuperintendentgaveaveryplainlyboundBible(worthfortycentsinthoseeasytimes)tothepupil. Howmanyofmyreaderswouldhavetheindustryandapplicationtomemorizetwothousandverses,evenforaDoreBible?
